About Nick

Nick Mann driver training has provided professional driving tuition, for students in and around Bedford, since 1998. After undertaking instructor training through BSM, and holding an AA franchise for many years, Nick became a fully independent instructor in 2004. Over the years Nick has amassed vast experience, of not just driving, but teaching, and in 2011 was awarded a Diploma in Driving Instruction, after successfully completing all the required written examinations, a qualification that only a small number of driving instructor hold. At his last ‘check test’ Nick was rated as a Grade 5 Instructor. More

Pupils of all ages and abilities are welcomed for their driving lessons, from the new driver to the experienced. For those who have been unsuccessful in previous tests, advice is offered to correct previous difficulties. All driving lessons are conducted with an aim to educate for life, and not just to pass the driving test.  For those with previous driving experience refresher lessons can be tailored to fit any requirements. This can help build confidence and add new skills, to those not used for a while. The driving tuition is relaxed, friendly and patient, so those who are nervous and anxious, will be quickly put at ease, and able to enjoy and develop their driving. There are very flexible lesson times and pickups, to suit any pupil requirements, and discounts for students and block bookings are available. There is also an extra online section, with additional advice for current students which will help to remind and consolidate tuition, as well as providing helpful advice maps of the local area.

Nick is one only of a few of local instructors who offer tuition for the Drive iQ PRO. The course runs alongside normal driving lessons, and offers a vocational qualification, a BTEC level 2 (GCSE  equivalent) in driving. Those who complete will have greater safety on the roads, through vastly increased road skills, knowledge, and attitudes. The accompanying software helps education towards theory testing, and gives new drivers the opportunity to build driving skills through the five modules of high quality driver training clips. As the driver will be trained to a much higher standard substantial discounts off car insurance premiums, are available. The course has in total, 23 online tasks and formal in-car discussions and exercises. Students completing the Drive iQ PRO qualification will receive the Pass Plus certificate as well.

For the newly passed, there is post-test tuition with the Pass Plus course (6 hours minimum). New drivers will gain advanced tuition on motorways, whilst building up skills out of town, and at night. A greater understanding of driving in different weather will be learnt.

Motorway lessons are available for those looking to experience driving on these new types of road and heavier traffic conditions, with professional advice and guidance.

The Lessons

If you are a newcomer to the road, your driving will start in quieter areas. We will learn the car controls, and build up confidence using them. As your vehicle handling grows, the knowledge of junctions and roundabouts will be gained. When you are happier driving at higher speeds, the dual-carriageway is a natural progression. Experience and confidence will soon grow, enabling you to handle much busier junctions and roundabouts. During this time you will learn and practice the test exercises (manoeuvres), which are turn in the road, reversing round a corner, parallel parking, bay parking and the controlled stop. As your lessons and experience grows, your driving and manoeuvres will become smoother and independent. A mock test/practice test will then show test readiness, and what to expect on the practical test. With the correct level of further practice and tuition, you will then be ready to demonstrate your safe and confident driving to the examiner, and pass your driving test first time.

For those with previous experience (maybe even taken a practical test un-successfully), on your first lesson we can together assess your driving and manoeuvres, so can arrange the correct level of practice and tuition required before a driving test.
