- UNIT 1 ~ DRIVING SKILLS AND RISK
This core unit will introduce you to driving and the importance of developing a safe attitude from the start. You will learn about managing risks in driving and the link to novice driver crashes. During your driving lessons you will learn how to control the vehicle and will also start experiencing potentially hazardous situations. With supervision you will learn how to deal with these hazards through the development of safety routines. Self assessment of your own performance when dealing with situations together with a developed understanding of what actions contribute to a safe response will begin to define your own development needs.
Unit one tasks
- Vehicle safety checks, car controls and equipment. (Practical)
- Vehicle controls and instruments and the dangers of ignoring them. (Online)
- Safety routines, warning /direction signs and road markings while integrating with others safely. (Practical)
- Novice driver crash involvement (discussion)
- Eye scanning methodology (practical)
To achieve this unit you must be able to:
- Demonstrate safe car control
- Explain the key factors in risk management and crash causation.
