THE BTEC IN DRIVING SCIENCE UNIT 3 GUIDE
During this unit you will work on the development of a proactive driving style rather than a reactive driving style. A proactive driving style is achieved by searching to identify potential hazards before they develop and thus allowing time and space to respond safely. It is also the case that a proactive driving style, with a smooth progression through traffic is the strongest predictor of fuel efficiency according to recent research. Furthermore, maintaining a lower and consistent progression is also associated with lower crash involvement. To achieve a smooth driving style you will need to anticipate hazards before they take place, allowing a steady adjustment to your speed and minimal use of the brakes.you will also learn how to reduce the environmental impact of vehicle use at both a global and local level. Further development of your driving experience will now include roads with faster moving traffic, busier traffic systems and environments that bring their own risks, such as night driving and rural roads. Development of your ability to accompany your driving with commentary will highlight your competencies and aid self assessment of levels of concentration and hazard awareness etc
