THE BTEC IN DRIVING SCIENCE UNIT 4 GUIDE

This unit is designed to take you to a good level of driving proficiency, gaining the ability to drive safely without the need for prompting from your tutor. You will have to demonstrate that you are able to drive at a proficient level and concentrate for a period of time, on different types of road with full control of your vehicle, whilst dealing safely with numerous types of hazard. At this stage, you should also be able to evaluate the circumstances under which this proficiency could be impaired.the conclusion of this unit will allow you to apply for full licence acquisition (via a dsa test) and give you the ability to drive on your own without supervision. You should be aware of the responsibility that a full licence brings and be able to evaluate your behaviour and how it could influence your risk of being involved in a crash. The unit also focuses on how you think and feel and how in turn this will have an effect on how you drive on individual journeys. The potential effects of peer pressure, distractions and driving whilst impaired are examined so you fully understand that it is your responsibility to ensure that you are driving with safety in mind. Your responsibilities as a passenger are also explored from the point of view of speaking out if the driver they are travelling with is taking risks
