ALPHA DRIVE

Learn to drive for life, not just the test.....

THE BTEC IN DRIVING SCIENCE UNIT 5 GUIDE

Once you have gained a full driving licence you will move onto this unit. It is key to the consolidation of the knowledge and skills developed throughout the course that you need for safe driving behaviour for life. Now you are licensed to drive with autonomy, research shows that sometimes confidence levels may be inappropriate and perceptions of risks may not be accurate for safe driving decisions. You can be advised and coached in dealing safely with road and traffic situations to address these behavioural issues. Fine adjustments to your driving style can also be developed if necessary, whilst introducing new scenarios and experiences, not necessarily covered previously. However, the main focus of this unit is to ensure that you fully appreciate how the goals of driving and skills for living affect your ability to drive safely throughout their lives. The importance of self assessment or monitoring and managing personal risk in driving has been highlighted throughout the qualification. This unit takes self assessment one step further by focusing on the development of the skill of self-evaluation. Here, you will be encouraged to question your own beliefs, values, thoughts and feelings and how these personal characteristics could impact on your decision making under many different road situations and journey circumstances.
